Can Fad Diets Such As The Water Diet Actually Be Healthy?

Contrary to popular belief, not all fad diets are necessarily bad for the individual. As a matter of fact, there are many of these eating and exercise plans that are perfectly safe and healthy. In many cases, the term fad simply applies to a method of weight loss that becomes very trendy at that period in time. The same is often true of crash diets, although associated with unhealthy practices, this is also false. The crash diet is merely a weight loss regimen that helps the person lose weight within a short period of time.

One such program that falls in the category of both crash and fad dieting is the water diet. This is a not so unique method that has been used for years to aid in weight loss. However, there are several variations of this particular method. While some consist of mainly consuming water, rather than foods, others may combine the two. In some cases, dietary supplements and frequent periods of rest are a part of the process.  Although it has been shown successful when it comes to shedding extra pounds, this may not always be the best option.

Despite the fact that not all fad diets, such as the water diet are necessarily bad for the individual, there are many things that must be considered. The primary disadvantage is nutritional deficit and even fluid imbalances. As with other types of things, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about this kind of dieting. Some may choose to do this on their own, while others will implement dieting plans such as this under a care of a physician. In addition to this, certain groups are at higher risks for complications associated with fad diets. Those with pre-existing health conditions, are of a younger or older age or have been diagnosed with an eating disorder should seek the advice of a physician before embarking on such efforts.
