How to Get Rid of Red Bumps on Arms

The formation of red bumps on arms, thighs, cheeks and other parts of the body is usually a sign that you probably have a skin condition known as keratosis pilaris. This condition is brought about by the skin’s overproduction of keratin which results in the clogging of the pores.  It has been found to be mostly hereditary so the condition isn’t contagious at all. The question remains: how can you get rid of these unsightly red bumps?

The fact is, keratosis pilaris has no definite cure. There is no specific cream that doctors can prescribe that will assure you clear skin after use. Most of the times, the bumps disappear on their own and if they don’t, you’ll have to deal with them for the rest of your life. Still, there are some things you can avoid doing and others that you should do to help your skin.

  • The number one on the list is not to scrub your skin. Though it may be tempting to scrub so hard that the bumps go away, this will only irritate it more.
  • Don’t also apply any cream that hasn’t been prescribed. You want to be sure that whatever you apply on your skin won’t make it any worse.
  • Don’t use hard soaps. These will only rid your skin of its moisture.
  • Moisturize your skin regularly. This could include using lotions or creams on a daily basis and a moisturizing soap when you bath.
  • Consult a doctor. Before you decide what to put on your skin, make sure it isn’t harmful in any way.

If you have recently noticed red bumps on arms, you don’t really have to worry. They aren’t harmful to your health and will go away in time. For now, keeping your skin clean and moisturized should be your top priority.
