Everyone will agree that a good treadmill workout is a great way for getting in shape and starting to lead a healthy lifestyle. But few people actually do work out every day. One of the main reasons for this is that they lose motivation. It takes month to build up a good habit, but a few lazy days can throw you off.
While this is true for every kind of exercise, it is even more true for treadmill workouts: you run in a single spot and you keep running, but you never “get somewhere”. Many people claim that outdoor running is a much more psychologically fulfilling exercise than running on a treadmill. But it is undeniable that there are many benefits to running on a treadmill.
Here are some techniques you can use to keep yourself motivated:
1) Do something else.
This is the most obvious and the easiest technique. Just grab a book, watch a TV show or listen to some music or a podcast while you’re running on your treadmill. Many people do this and it is great alternative to lying on the coach when watching TV. This way it also saves you some time!
2) Use another treadmill.
Of course you can’t just buy a new treadmill. Go to the gym for a month or ask a friend if you can use their treadmill for a month. It will be a refreshing experience and when you get back to your own treadmill you will have that feeling again.
3) Go to another room.
Some treadmills are too big to be moved, but if you own a portable treadmill you can just move it to another room or even to the garden if the weather is nice. This change in scenery will immediately re-motivate you. Just move your treadmill every two weeks and try out if it has any effects on your motivation.
