The Jerusalem Diet was created by Colorado Springs pastor Ted Haggard when he visited the region and found his clothes were no longer comfortable. He committed himself to eating only fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds and drinking only water. After a short time his clothes begin to fit again and he found himself having more confidence and a more fulfilling self image. The Jerusalem Diet is predicated around a plan of daily weigh-ins and weekly goal of losing one to two pounds week. On days where the participant is below his goal weight he or she may eat whatever they like. If he or she weighs more than his goal for the week they must follow the creator’s nutritional restrictions and exercise for at least one hour.
Gradual Weight Loss: With a modest weight loss goal of one pound per week the Jerusalem does not put a lot of pressure or stress on losing weight quickly making it ideal for even the beginning dieter. Haggard’s plan is gentle on the body and by losing weight over a lengthier period of time one is more inclined to keep the weight off. Slow weight loss has been found to be easier and safer on the body and avoids the yo-yo affect that often occurs when we lose large amounts of weight rapidly.
Day to Day Approach with Daily Weigh-ins: By weighing in daily and take a day to day approach one is more likely to succeed in reaching their weight loss goals.
Promotes Healthy Eating: With regimens designed around daily weigh-ins dieters on the Jerusalem diet over time are more liable to adopt a more balanced eating philosophy. They learn to avoid overeating and are more conscious of eating natural foods that promote a healthy metabolism.
Flexibility and Affordability: With no meal plans to follow and a diet of produce that can be easily obtained for little expense in any market this is a diet that’s easy to stick to and gentle on the wallet.
