Most men know that getting proper prostate checkups with their doctors is extremely important, especially for men over the age of forty. Prostate health problems like enlarged prostate and prostate cancer often manifest themselves first with elevated PSA levels which only your doctor can monitor with a PSA screening test of your blood. When your PSA levels are elevated this can indicate an increased risk for developing problems and may be a good motivator for you to try to lower your PSA with your diet.
Maintaining low PSA levels is not going to guarantee the prevention of prostate health issues but medical research has shown us that dietary factors can affect one’s health and when combined with new research showing that certain foods can help lower PSA levels eating these foods should help more men on average from having prostate health problems down the road.
Of the foods that researchers have identified that help with supporting prostate health the easiest foods to incorporate into your diet are simple foods like cauliflower and broccoli. Both of these cruciferous vegetables are well known to help maintain a healthy prostate. Other fruits like pomegranates and tomatoes have also been shown to help in lowering PSA levels but the most intriguing way to lower PSA levels with food is to combine these foods as frequently as possible.
In particular researchers have isolated the prostate health benefits of both tomatoes and broccoli and found that people who eat a combination of the two foods at the same time end up experience greater benefits than the sum of the individual foods. In lab tests some tests found that this combination of foods was sometimes even able to halt the growth of prostate tumors. Although these are merely lab tests they do suggest a significant benefit to eating these two foods in unison to support healthy PSA levels and decrease one’s risk for developing prostate health conditions.
