In the past, coconut oil has been accused of increasing the cholesterol levels of the body. This is due to the high levels of saturated fat which is bad for the body especially the fat. However, recent studies show that the coconut oil’s saturated fat is not like the one found in meat. The fat found in the oil has properties that can even prevent what normally causes heart attack and stroke—hardening of the arteries.
Today, virgin coconut oil or VCO is among the products of coconut which boasts of the same properties as that of normal coconut oil. But wait, there’s more—definitely more. VCO also boasts of promoting weight loss, now who would be able to resist that? Though the oil may contain about 90% of saturated fat, this kind of fat is set into medium chain fatty acids which causes the metabolism to boost up, therefore burning more calories.
Virgin Coconut Oil as a Diet Regimen
Unlike most diet regimens, VCO diet does not tell people to do this and do that. On the other hand, VCO reduces the cravings for food. This means that there is no need to go to the ridge every few hours looking for something to satiate the hunger. If the food cravings stop, then the body will recover from too much calories, thus losing weight.
According to some articles, a tablespoon of VCO per day will suffice for the beginners. After, 2-3 tablespoons will be the recommended amount per day. This means that the body will metabolize faster than usual. However, the persistence to consume saturated fats will lessen the ability of VCO to work—meaning, saturated fat intake should be set at a minimum.
This begs the question of how much weight will be lost once the regimen starts. The body structure and the metabolism of a person will be a dependent factor in the VCO regimen. It is good to consult with a physician so as to know what to do with regard to losing weight using VCO.
