I have been reading all the hype about BPA free plastic water jugs and I think it’s just all marketing hogwash. While the plastic may be BPA free, they’re not telling you the whole truth. Because plastic is made from petrochemicals, the plastic is still releasing many other toxic chemicals that mimic estrogen. They are called estrogenic chemicals. They are suspected to be connected to cancer. This is why we chose to go with a 15 liter stainless steel water jug over a Coleman 5 gallon stainless steel water jug. The Coleman stainless steel has a plastic interior and is wrapped with stainless steel. While it’s a high-quality product, I am more concerned about my health and the toxic issues related to plastic.
We have replaced all our portable plastic water bottles to stainless steel. They clean up better, taste better, and in our opinion, are a better choice for health as well as the environment.
Stainless steel water jug choices
Sansone 5.3 gallon stainless steel dispenser. This is a high-quality Italian made water dispenser. This is the one that you want to use if you are going to both store and transport water and because it comes with a water tight screw top silicon seal. It does not come with a spigot. An optional spigot can be purchased separately.
Dinuba 25 L water dispenser. This is another high quality Italian made water dispenser by Sansone. This large 6.6 gallon water jug can also be used to transport very as liquids because it too has a screw in sealed silicon lid.
Dinuba 15 L water dispenser. It has the same qualities listed above with the exception that it is only a 4 gallon water container.
The biggest disadvantage that we have found with stainless water jugs is that we cannot check to visually see how much water is remaining in the container by shining our battery LED light through the side wall as we did with our plastic jug. We have to remove the lid from time to time.
While all of these water containers will cost more than a plastic water jug, they will last a lifetime if taken care of and can be passed on to the next generation. That will never happen with a plastic water jug. And the taste will be hands down better.
